dirtyBeta's Development Tools
-
Apache
No need to gush about Apache. Everyone knows it's the webserver to use. A no-brainer.
-
Firebug
Honestly, what did web developers do before this existed?? Say goodbye to
alert()forever, and helloooooooo to the best webdev tool of all time. -
GIMP
The Gimp is an amazing program if for no other reason than because it's available for the three big operating systems. What I tell people is that it's almost -- almost -- as good as Photoshop.
-
gVim
To properly appreciate this text editor, you should really watch someone skilled with its in-depth and massively customizable interface. It's incredible how fast you can code with this powerhouse under your fingers.
-
MySQL
INSERT INTO mysql (praise) VALUES ('best database ever'); -
PHP
Still the best server-side scripting language. Sure there are popular, buzzy languages around, but when you need quick and powerful, PHP is an easy choice.
-
Ubuntu
Finally, the killer Linux OS we've all been waiting for. Ubuntu just works, and it works well. I overwrote Windows XP to install it on my laptop and have never looked back. It's a web developer's dream.
